The thing that most people are either not sure of or don’t think about is the workout shoe.
Have you ever thought about what kind of shoe you are going to wear for your round of cardio? Do you wear different kind of shoes for your Plyometric/HIIT workout?
When people want to work out, they like to either look great or don’t care and put on what they have laying around. Both of which is good. The rule for your clothes is, they should be comfortable and you need to be able to move freely.
Unfortunately, the same rule does not apply to your workout shoes. If you are like me and do all kinds of different workouts, you will at least need two pairs of workout shoes. One pair of training Shoes for all of your HIIT, Plyometric and weight training workouts, as wells as one pair of good running shoes for all your Cardio workouts.
The reason behind that is, first of all you need to look at the natural arch of your foot. That gives you an idea of what kind of support your foot will need. For example, if you have a low arch and your ankle leans inward, your foot may pronate, and you will need a shoe that supports your foot and gives it stability, whereas when you have a neutral arch you should be fine with a regular shoe.
The second thing is that with a HIIT workout, your feet are used differently compared to how they are used while running. When you are running, your foot hits the ground from front to back, not side to side. You won’t need the support of a mid-sole as opposed to a Plyometric workout. Also, you don’t want to have as much cushioning in your heel, as it may lead to injury because you might lose a bit of traction.
A training shoe is the one shoe you will most likely wear more often than a running shoe, so I always suggest getting two pairs of them. I prefer Nike Flex Trainers over the Nike InSeason TR, just because they don’t have this gel insole, which I find gives me not enough stability and balance. A training shoe should give you more stability, and flexibility, because you need to balance, jump and turn, fast and without getting injured.
